Captain Richard Monaghan

Capt. Richard “Bud” Monaghan died Thursday, December 25, 2008 at home. Born on Long Island, NY August 9, 1935, age 73. Of Dravosburg, he was a retired riverboat captain for Consol Coal Company. He was a member and elder of Central Presbyterian Church, a member of its Men’s Association, American Legion Post #1504, Dravosburg, the Dravosburg Volunteer Fire Department, and the Pine Run Boat Club. Mr Monaghan served as a corporal in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

Son of the late Richard and Maybelle Allen Monaghan, he is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Dolores “Dee” Bell Monaghan, children, Richard “Rick” W. (Becky) Monaghan of Dravosburg, Rhonda (Larry) Demko of Wilson, and Randy N. Monaghan of N. Kingston, RI, also 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and sister, Nancy “Nan” McLaughlin of Liberty Borough. He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Robert J. “Rob” Monaghan and Russell “Rusty” Monaghan.

Friends will be received in the Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., 1600 Coursin Street, McKeesport, PA 15132 Sunday from 7-9 PM and Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. A service will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 11:00 AM in Central Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Darrell Knopp officiating. Interment will follow in Penn Lincoln Memorial Park. The family suggests contributions to Three Rivers Hospice.
