William J. Rankin

William J. Rankin died Thursday, August 30, 2007 at UPMC Presbyterian.  Born in McKeesport July 6, 1923, age 84.  Of White Oak, he was a carpenter and a member of the former Long Run Presbyterian Church.  A WWII US Army veteran serving with the 10th Mountain Division, he was a Past Commander and Past President of the Board of Directors of the Gen. Smedley D. Butler Post #701, American Legion.

Husband of the late Virginia Stearns Rankin, son of the late William J. and Viola Hirschelroth Rankin, he is survived by a daughter, Deborah Rankin of White Oak, a son, William J. Rankin, Jr. of White Oak, and a granddaughter, Amy Rankin of North Versailles.

Friends will be received in the Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., 1600 Coursin Street, McKeesport Sunday from 12-4 & 6-8 PM.  A service will be held Sunday at 8:00 PM in the funeral home with the Rev. Kathleen Barnhart officiating.  A private interment will be held Tuesday in Long Run Cemetery.
