William O. Hunter

William O. Hunter died Saturday, June 13, 1998 in McKeesport Hospital.  Born in McKeesport July 2, 1919, age 78.  Of McKeesport, he was a funeral director and an owner of Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., and a 1949 graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.

Son of the late Frank C. and Catherine Williams Hunter, he is survived by his wife, Betty Copper Hunter; 2 sons, William C. Hunter of McKeesport and Frank C. Hunter of Oakland Park, FL; 1 daughter, Sue Ann Singer of Latrobe; 2 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Catherine H. Svenson of McKeesport, Jean H. Burstrom of Latrobe, and Frances G. Hunter of Coconut Grove, FL; nieces and nephews.

A member, deacon, and elder of Central Presbyterian Church, he was a trustee of the Estate of Edwin R. Crawford Trust Fund, a member of the Board of Directors of the McKeesport Hospital Foundation, the Boys and Girls Club of McKeesport, and the McKeesport YMCA.  He was a life member and trustee of the McKeesport YWCA, a member of the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army of McKeesport, and a member of the Mon Yough Chamber of Commerce.

A member of Youghiogheny Lodge #583, F & AM; McKeesport Royal Arch Chapter #282; a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Bodies; Al O Mon Forest #138, Tall Cedars of Lebanon; Syria Temple of the Shrine and its McKeesport Caravan #4.  He also served as Past President of the Masonic Hall Association.

A member and Past Secretary from 1971 - 1979 of the Rotary Club of McKeesport, and a member of Youghiogheny Country Club.

He was a WWII US Army veteran, serving as a Master Sgt. in the Pacific Theater.  He was a member of the National Association of the Sixth Infantry Division and a member of the Gen. Smedley D. Butler Post #701, American Legion.
