Edith Ungar Mendlowitz

Edith Ungar Mendlowitz died Sunday, March 13, 2011 at the Montifiore Nursing Home in Beachwood, OH. Born in McKeesport, July 13, 1912, age 98.

Formerly of McKeesport and White Oak, she was a retired bookkeeper for Mars Wholesale Supply, was a member of the Congregation Gemilas Chesed and its Sisterhood, the Hebrew Beneficial Society, B’nai Brith Women of McKeesport, and Chapter #32, A.A.R.P.

Daughter of the late Bernard and Mary Weiss and Anna Hecht Ungar, wife of the late Sidney Harris Mendlowitz, she is survived by her son, Joseph Samuel Mendlowitz of White Oak; 2 grandsons, Louis A. (Marnie) Mendlowitz and Leon M. (Deena) Mendlowitz; 3 great grandchildren, Evelyn, Zoe, and Raphael; sister, Sylvia Uram of N. Hollywood, CA; 2 sisters-in-law, Ruth Ungar of White Oak and Sylvia Ungar of California; also nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her son, Bernard Barzal Mendlowitz; 5 brothers, David, Adolph A., Joseph, Harry William, and Leo S. Ungar; and 2 sisters, Beme Iszak and Ella Ungar.

Friends will be received in The Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., 1600 Coursin Street, McKeesport, PA 15132 one hour prior to her service, which will take place Monday, March 14, 2011 at 3:30 PM in the funeral home with Rabbi Moshe Russell officiating. Interment will follow in the Original Gemilas Chesed Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to Congregation Gemilas Chesed, Montifiore Nursing Home, or to a favorite charity.
