Attorney George F. Young, Jr.

Attorney George F. “Bud” Young, Jr. died Monday, June 29, 2009 at UPMC McKeesport. Born in McKeesport on September 23, 1921, age 87. Of White Oak, Mr. Young was an attorney at law, a member of McKeesport Presbyterian Church, the Kiwanis Club of McKeesport, a trustee of the Estate of Edwin R. Crawford Trust Fund, was a 50 year member of Alliquippa Lodge #375, F & AM, a director of the Masonic Hall Association, a board member of West Penn AAA, a member of White Oak Post #701 of the American Legion, B.P.O.E., Lodge #11, Pittsburgh, the Youghiogheny Country Club, and the Allegheny County Bar Association. A graduate of McKeesport High School, Class of 1939 and Dickinson College & Law School, he was a WW II US Army Air Corps veteran and P.O.W.

Son of the late George F. and Adelaide White Young, he is survived by his wife, Sandy Walter Young; 3 daughters, Elizabeth (Christopher) Abernethy of Hampton Township, Claudia (Frank) Murphy of Annapolis, MD, and Jennifer Young of Pittsburgh; his son, George “Geff” Young III of Hampton Township; his son in law, John Ohgren of Reston, VA; 5 grandchildren, Peter Abernethy of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, Brooke Braun of Arlington, VA, Matthew Murphy of Fredericksburg, VA, Timothy Murphy of Fombell, PA, and Michael Ohgren of Reston, VA; 1 great granddaughter, Ariella Murphy; also nieces & nephews. Attorney Young was preceded in death by his daughter, Katherine “Punkie” Ohgren and 2 sisters, Mernie Mueller and Adelaide “Peg” Taylor.

Friends will be received in the Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., 1600 Coursin Street, McKeesport, PA 15132 on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. A service will take place Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 11:00 AM in McKeesport Presbyterian Church, 1510 Versailles Avenue, McKeesport, PA 15132 with the Rev. Dr. Darrell Knopp officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Elizabeth Township. The family suggests contributions to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Allegheny District Chapter, 1501 Reedsdale Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15233 or to Family Hospice & Palliative Care, 50 Moffett Street, Mt. Lebanon, PA 15243.
