Attorney J. Paul Farrell

Attorney J. Paul Farrell, 95, of McKeesport died Thursday (10/5/2000) in Lawson Nursing Home, Inc., Jefferson Hills. A practicing attorney in McKeesport since 1930, he was a 1923 graduate of McKeesport High School, a 1927 graduate of Duquesne University, and a 1930 graduate of Duquesne University School of Law.

He was a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, Allegheny County Bar Association, United States District Courts for Pennsylvania, St. Martin de Porres Parish in McKeesport, McKeesport Council 955, Knights of Columbus, a former member of the McKeesport Lodge 136, B.O.P. Elks, and a charter member of the Serra Club of McKeesport.

A professor at Duquesne University School of Law, he was the Director Emeritus at Three Rivers Bank, honorary chairman of the board for the former McKeesport National Bank, director and past president of McKeesport Area School District from 1954 to 1960, and a trustee emeritus and past president of the Carnegie Library of McKeesport.

Farrell served on the board of directors for the DePaul Institute, Auberle Home and St. Anthony School for Exceptional Children and was the recipient of the St. Thomas More Award for an outstanding Catholic lawyer of Allegheny County in 1975.

Born Sept. 19, 1905, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Frank and Anna Busch Farrell and the husband of the late Estelle Koughan Farrell. He is survived by daughters, Joanne F. Bonessi of Elizabeth Twp., Gail P. Moyes of Boulder, CO, Theresa Rosenberg of Mount Lebanon and R. Cynthia Farrell Lichtenstein of Ashland, MA, sons, Dr. J. Paul Farrell Jr. of Setauket, NY, Dr. Michael P. Farrell of Rochester, NY, Captain C. Timothy Farrell of Cocoa Beach, FL and Attorney J. Terrence Farrell of McKeesport, 21 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Friends will be received in the Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., McKeesport tomorrow from noon to 2 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter Church by the Rev. John Gudewicz. Interment will be in New St. Joseph Cemetery, North Versailles Twp.
