Joan Palmer Donald

Joan Palmer Donald died Saturday, December 23, 2006 at Friendship Village Health Care Center. Born February 1, 1931 in McKeesport. Formerly of Williamsburg, VA, she currently resides in McMurray, PA. Daughter of the late C.E. (Ted) and Ella Weaver Palmer, wife of A.J. Donald, mother of Ted Donald (and wife Brenda Donald) of Peters Township and New Delhi, India and Betsey Wells (and husband Tom Wells) of Greensboro, NC, and grandmother of Jason and Lauren Donald and Casey and Caroline Wells.

A member of the First United Methodist Church of McKeesport, she was former director of the Diabetes Association of Pittsburgh. A Fulbright Scholar, she attended Vassar and was a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Raised on Manor Avenue in McKeesport and Colonial Drive in Mt. Vernon, she hosted a sports show on a local radio station while attending high school. A sports enthusiast and avid Pittsburgh Pirate fan, she traveled extensively worldwide and was a tournament bridge player. She enjoyed golf and was a member of several country clubs including Waynesboro Country Club in Berwyn, PA, Country Club of Darien in Connecticut, Longue Vue Country Club in Pittsburgh and Ross Mountain Park in Ligonier.

A service will be held Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at 2:00 PM in the Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., 1600 Coursin Street, McKeesport with the Rev. Cindy McClung officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Elizabeth Township. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Family Hospice and Palliative Care, 50 Moffett Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15243 or the American Heart Association are appreciated.
