Kathryn W. Hutchinson

Anna Kathryn Wylie Hutchinson, 102, died of heart failure, August 18, 2009 at Redstone Highlands Senior Living Community, Greensburg, Pennsylvania.

Daughter of the late Samuel J. and Clara Emma Heil Wylie, Kathryn was born and raised on the Wylie farm in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Elizabeth High School in 1924 and attended Westminster College where she majored in English, French, Spanish, and History. She was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. Upon graduation, she taught English at Elizabeth High School for 11 years. Kathryn was a member of the Rehobeth Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth until she met her late husband J. Earl Hutchinson at a church picnic. She and Earl were married August 22, 1939 where upon she joined Round Hill Presbyterian Church where she served as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, choir member, elder, President of the Women’s Association and assisted with youth activities. With her children in school, Kathryn returned to teaching first as a substitute teacher in the Elizabeth Forward District and then as a full time teacher in the Clairton school District.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband Earl Hutchinson. She is survived by two daughters, Kathryn Klyce of Naperville, Illinois and Mary E. Scarborough of Delta, Pennsylvania, a son Joseph E. Hutchinson Jr. of Richmond, Virginia, six grandchildren and 7 great grand children.

A service will take place Saturday, August 22 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Round Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Lowell Meeks officiating. Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., 1600 Coursin Streeet, McKeesport, PA 15132 is in charge of arrangements. The family suggests contributions to Round Hill Presbyterian Church, Elizabeth, PA 15037 or to Redstone Highlands Senior Living Community, Greensburg, PA 15601.
