Mervin Caninzun

Mervin Caninzun died Saturday, August 22, 2009 at home. Born in Pittsburgh, PA May 4, 1930, age 79. Of Wilkins Township, he was a self employed business owner of M&H Supply for 41 years, a member of Temple David in Monroeville, Past Commander of VFW Post #299, President (1987) of the Parent’s League of Emotional Adjustment, and worked 21 years as an advocate for mental health on behalf of his daughter Cindy. Mr. Caninzun was a US Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, and was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the UN Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the ROK Presidential Unit Citation Emblem.

Son of the late Jack and Rebecca Lundy Caninzun, he is survived by his wife Harriett Berson Caninzun; 3 children, Cynthia Caninzun of McKeesport, Jerrold Caninzun of South Carolina, and Debbie Caninzun of Monroeville; 4 grandchildren, Scott & Rebecca Gerse and Leeza & Aaron Caninzun; and a sister, Estelle Blumenfeld of Dormont.

A graveside service with military honors will take place at Beth Shalom Cemetery, Shaler Township on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at 1:30 PM with Rabbi Barbara Symons officiating. Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., 1600 Coursin Street, McKeesport, PA 15132 is in charge of the arrangements. The family suggests contributions to the National Alliance for Mentally Ill, Jewish Residential Services, or to Temple David Synagogue.
