Walter G. Mains

Walter G. Mains died Friday, November 20, 2009 in UPMC McKeesport. Born in Christy Park, September 10, 1923, age 86. Of White Oak, he was a retired pipefitter at the former National Works of U.S. Steel. He was a member of Park Baptist Church; Canon Lodge #204, Knights of Pythis, Canonsburg, PA; Clark County Lodge #96, Knights of Pythias, Las Vegas, NV; Past Grand Chancellor of the Knights of Pythias of the Domain of PA; White Oak A.A.R.P.; and White Oak American Legion. A member of the Park Baptist Church League softball team, he was a coach for the White Oak and Glassport American Legion baseball teams, played for the Bryn Mawr Preps football team, and was an avid bowler, golfer, and tennis player. A WWII US Army veteran, he served as a PFC in the Pacific Theatre.

Son of the late Walter G. and Mayme Hildebrand Mains, Sr., he is survived by his wife of 63 years, Vervaine E. “Vickie” Blamick Mains; a son, Daryl G. (Cindy) Mains of Greensburg, PA; 2 daughters, Cathy L. (Ronald) Jaskolski of Scottsboro, Alabama and Saundra R. (Charles) Grimsley of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; 6 grandchildren, Christina Jaskolski Geiger, Brian Grimsley, Mark Grimsley, Elizabeth Mains (Jason) Rigby, Lindsay Mains (Radie) Kreutzer, and Daryl Mains, Jr.; also 2 great granddaughters & 2 great grandsons.

Friends will be received in the Hunter Funeral Home, Inc., 1600 Coursin Street, McKeesport, PA 15132 Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and Tuesday from 10-11 AM. A service will take place in the funeral home Tuesday, November 24 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Brian A. Evans officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Penn Lincoln Memorial Park. The family suggests contributions to Park Baptist Church.
