William J. Yahn

William J. Yahn, 84, died Sunday, November 30, 2008, at home in Pell City, Alabama. Born in White Oak, he was the son of the late William N. and Emma Illman Yahn. He was a 1942 graduate of McKeesport High School and a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Medical Corps. He subsequently earned a BS in Civil Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh.

Mr. Yahn retired from Hunter Engineering Plastics as Vice President of Marketing He was a member of Masonic Blue Lodge #641, a Noble with Zamora Shrine of Birmingham, a lifetime member of the American Waterworks Association, and a member of the Pine Harbor Golf Club.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, DeLores Porto Yahn, a Glassport native; his daughter, Cynthia D. Yahn (Marit Ramstad) of Ithaca, NY; sister-in-law Shirley Porto Darr of Forward Twp.; niece Karen Miller Kost (William) of White Oak; nephew James R. Miller (Kathleen) of White Oak; niece Suzie Darr Ulbrich (John) of Hamstead, NC; great-niece Cassidy A. Miller and great-nephew Jesse J. Miller, both of White Oak; and many devoted friends, both in Pell City and McKeesport areas.

Mr. Yahn was preceded in death by a son, Hunter William Yahn, in 1977, and a sister, Ethel Yahn Miller, in 2000.

A memorial service took place December 20 at St. Simon Peter Episcopal Church in Pell City.
